Use cawcut-vn to bring local media into VN. Choose a quick preview and import, or have the skill plan and assemble an editable rough cut. The workflow is local and does not require CawCut sign-in.
1. What cawcut-vn Does
VN is a photo and video editor with tools for arranging clips, adding transitions, captions, and music. Learn more on the VN website.
cawcut-vn supports two ways to work with your media:
- Preview and import: Open a selection of photos or video clips in VN for a quick look.
- Plan and build a rough cut: Arrange your photos, videos, and audio into an editable VN draft. The skill can also use media created by another CawCut tool.
It edits and assembles media; it does not generate source images, video, or audio. You can invoke /cawcut-vn in your AI-agent chat or describe the VN task in natural language.
2. Choose a Workflow
At the start, cawcut-vn checks whether VN is available. If it is, you can choose a quick preview and import, the editing flow, or stop. If VN is unavailable, you can enter the editing flow or stop; the preview option is not offered.
2.1 Preview and Import Media
Choose preview and import when you want to open your source files in VN without planning a timeline. Provide the local photos or clips, and the skill imports them into VN for a quick preview. This option is available when VN is installed and supported. It does not create a planned rough cut.
2.2 Plan and Build a Rough Cut
Choose the editing flow when you want cawcut-vn to arrange your media into a timeline. You can use your own local files or output from another CawCut tool. The skill reviews the available media, plans the edit with you, then creates and validates the draft after you approve the plan.
3. Plan and Review the Edit
3.1 Choose the Project Shape and Style
For a new editing project, provide or confirm:
- The aspect ratio: 9:16, 16:9, or 1:1.
- A short project title and its intended use, such as a social post or product video.
- A target duration, if you have one.
- An editing style that fits your media, such as a clean narrative, rhythm montage, or photo story.
The skill checks your files and recommends an approach that fits the material. It may ask you to choose between suitable options before continuing.
3.2 Add Music or Text
You can include local music or sound-effect files. You can also request title or caption text, or provide an existing SRT subtitle file. Tell the skill what wording to use; it does not transcribe speech or create source media.
3.3 Approve and Build the Draft
Before it creates the rough cut, cawcut-vn shows you a shot-by-shot edit plan. Review the proposed order and details. Ask for revisions if needed, then approve the plan to let it build and validate the draft.
After validation, the skill packages the project. If VN is installed and supported, it asks whether you want to open the project there. If VN is unavailable, it still packages the draft for later. The rough-cut workflow itself runs locally.
4. Prompt Examples
Invoke /cawcut-vn and state whether you want a quick import or a planned edit. You can also describe the task without using the command.
4.1 Preview and Import
Provide local media and ask for a quick preview in VN:
/cawcut-vn Open these clips in VN for a quick preview and import. Do not build a rough cut.4.2 Build a Rough Cut
Provide the local media you want to use. Include project details you already know; the skill will ask you to confirm anything still needed.
/cawcut-vn Build a 9:16 rough cut from these clips and photos for a social video. Use a clean narrative style and aim for about 30 seconds. Show me the shot-by-shot plan before building it.
